The Great Tradition of the Sunday Drive


This past Sunday was a perfect for an afternoon drive. The redbud and dogwood trees were in full flower. Even the lilacs were bursting into full bloom.

My mom and I went to Bentonville to enjoy the redbuds lining many of the downtown streets. They are especially beautiful on Central Street west of the square. We took a detour around street work near the square and drove through Compton Garden where the Crystal Bridges trail was busy with lots of strolling families out enjoying the lovely day.

Going west out of town we passed the Museum of Native American History with its large teepee in front of the building. We drove a big circle through Bella Vista back to Caverna on the Missouri line. The countryside was resplendent with flowering shrubs and gardens alive with spring bloom. A tapestry of woodland greens varied from lime to green-gold to one tinted with a soft red. Truly our hills were a oriental carpet of the finest hews of spring.

What a refreshing way to spend part of a leisurely Sunday afternoon!
